There are four different types of clouds: Cirrus, Cumulus, Stratus and Nimbus.
The four different categories of clouds end up combining names to form the 10 basic clouds.
- Cirrus clouds: wispy, white and composed of ice crystals
- Cumulus clouds: white and fluffy; these are the ones that form shapes
- Stratus clouds: broad and wide-spread like a blanket
- Nimbus clouds: gray and the highest in the sky; if you see these it’s about to rain!
Clouds appear at different levels of the atmosphere. You’ll likely see several different types of clouds at the same time.
Do you see fog?
